The mission of the Historic Homes Committee (HHC) is to research and preserve the history of historic homes and structures in the Village of Babylon; primarily those built before 1929. The Historic Homes Committee also endeavors to educate the public, and homeowners, about the vast amount of local history in and about historic homes and structures in the Village of Babylon.

Babylon Village Historic Homes and Buildings are profiled on our Blog at: Babylon Village Historic Homes and Buildings.

Thank you for your interest and caring about the history of the Village of Babylon.

House Research

The Historic Homes Committee can assist property owners who wish to research information about their homes and buildings in the Village of Babylon.

Using historic newspapers, historic public records (e.g., deeds and maps) and the collections of the Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society, HHC can help homeowners identify information about their property.

Each property research project can be different, but collected information can include:

  1. Year when house/building was first constructed
  2. Name of the first homeowner(s) and some information about the person/family (e.g. occupation, community activities)
  3. Name of the person or business that built the structure
  4. Sometimes, there may be a photograph of the house/building in the historical society collections

In 1980, the Village of Babylon engaged a group of historic preservation experts who inventoried more than 450 buildings, structures and sites of potential historic value. Those records are an invaluable resource in researching local homes and structures.
