50th Anniversary Summer of Celebration!
2024 represents the 50th anniversary of the Village of Babylon Historical and Preservation Society. Join us for the summer-long celebration of our historic and vibrant village. All events are free and open to all.
What: When Baseball Came to Babylon: The history of the Cuban Giants in Babylon and a look at the history of Argyle Park
When: Friday, June 28th 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Historical Society Museum
The Cuban Giants were the first fully salaried African-American professional baseball club which was originally formed in 1885 at the Argyle Hotel. Join us for a night of baseball history and classic baseball themed refreshments.
What: Conklin House Tour and Historical Presentation
When: Saturday, July 20th, 1 – 3 p.m.
Where: The Conklin House
A guided tour of Babylon Village’s jewel of an historic home, as well as an informative presentation about the history of the home and its importance to the village. The Conklin House is located at 280 Deer Park Avenue in Babylon Village.
What: Steve Kuhn’s Clam Power!
When: Saturday, August 24th, 2-3:30
Where: Historical Society Museum
Steve has been clamming for forty years right here on the Great South Bay. As a way to pay respect to the bay and to capture the turbulent times of the early sixties and seventies Steve came up with the Clam Power T-shirt. Refreshments will include clam chowder.
What: The Rise and Fall of the Gold Coast Estates
When: Sunday, September 22nd, 2 – 3:30
Where: Historical Society Museum
Author Ricard Panchyk explores the architectural ghosts of the Gilded Age, the remnants of the once grand estates of Long Island’s Gold Coast
